I told you QR Codes would be everywhere

We have been talking to our friends and customers about QR Codes. In the process we are trying to help them implement the use of this new technology to extend the reach of their marketing. Using these codes, businesses can connect their print marketing to their web presence.

In case you haven’t heard, Quick response Codes or QR Codes, are a newer generation of barcode technology, that allows for the storage of greater amounts of information than traditional barcodes. One of the significant advantages, and one that has made them extremely popular, is their ability to be read with a smartphone. Anyone can create these QR Codes and add them to their print marketing. The public then can scan them using a variety of free mobile applications like RedLaser or i-nigma.

 

 

We can understand businesses using QR Codes for marketing purposes but now, the Royal Dutch Mint have produced a commemorative coin dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of the Mint. This coin is the first official currency with a QR Code to go into circulation.

Fix Your Security Settings of Facebook Photo-Tagging

The bad guys are exploiting the photo tagging feature to get facebook users to follow links to infected pages or other dubious deeds.

They generally post a picture and tag multiple people, including you, even though you are not in the picture. To combat this latest threat, you may want to consider a few changes to your privacy settings.

While the functionality of approving a photo tag before you are tagged is not available in facebook, you can follow the next steps to make it harder for others to tag you without your approval.

• Customize your privacy settings so that "Photos and videos I'm tagged in" is set to "Only Me."
• Set your notifications so that you always know when someone tags you in a photo or tags one of your photos. You can control this setting from the "Notifications" tab on the Account Settings page.
• Click "remove tag" when viewing the photo in which you are tag, and don't want to be.

Sendoid - Instant, Private, P2P File Transfers

What is Sendoid?

Sendoid is an on-demand peer to peer transfer system. It makes transferring any size file between two people as simple as clicking a link!

Where do my files go?

Directly to the recipient. The peer link provided after selecting a file connects the recipient directly to your machine. Files never touch or pass through our servers.

Is Sendoid secure?

Sendoid offers security via a 128bit AES encryption algorithm, link obfuscation, and an optional user-set password at the end-point.

Always be cautious when transmitting highly sensitive data over a connection you do not control.

Are there size limits?

Sendoid's web interface limits total transfer size based on the resource availability of your local machine. This tends to be somewhere between 600MB and 1gb. Don't worry, we'll warn you if you try to send or receive a file that is too large.

Very nice alternative to YouSendIt. It doesn't upload the file. Instead, it creates a P2P connection to the file on-demand.
It would be nice if a service like this became mainstream. I hate it when I receive bloated attachments in my inbox. This way one can choose when, and to where to download it.
